Book Dictionary

A typographic term referring to the first line of a paragraph that appears alone at the bottom of a page or column. Considered a layout error to be avoided to maintain text aesthetics and readability.

It follows immediately after the half-title page. It introduces the book, containing the title, author, publisher, edition number, year, and place of publication.
