The editor is the professional responsible for guiding the book through all stages of editing. Within a publishing house, initially, they may be the one who determines if a title fits the editorial line they are responsible for and sometimes suggests changes to the book's content. Subsequently, and also when working independently, they manage the schedule and guide the book through the necessary stages in the editorial chain, and in some cases, determine and hire the professionals who will work on the project.
